About the artist:
Photographer Karl Ferris
was originally commisioned by Brian Epstein, the Saville's owner and, famously,
the Beatles' manager to create this poster. The August 27th 1967 concert featured
in this poster was regretably one of the most memorable of the Saville's nights,
because after Hendrix played his first Set at 6pm the word came that Brian Epstein
had just died from an overdose of sleeping pills, so the 8 pm performance was
cancelled, in mourning . Also on the bill that night, were the Crazy World Of
Arthur Brown, as well as Tomorrow, plus The Crying Shames. The Saville Theatre
was demolished soon after, in 1968.
About the poster:
This poster is one in a series of commemorative reprints from this era planned
by the artist (another Hendrix, a Cream, and a Donovan poster are planned). It
is printed on a quality heavy card stock suitable for framing.
